I realize that I don’t really talk about my own art on this blog. So in order to change that, I think I’ll start talking about drawings that I’ve made, every 4 months, as well as looking back the art that I have made, that I really like. On this post however, I plan to talk about certain specific art stuff (like shading, how I do lineart, and more) and just talking about the drawings individually.

For the most part, I tend to draw my sona, whose name is Lug (like me!) and he is an axolotl creature that was based off a friend’s Picrew, who eventually morphed into an OC, and then into my own sona. I’ve been drawing this character for like, 6 years, and I originally started drawing as a way to fit in with my artist friends. I eventually started liking drawing, so I continued. I slowly improved to the point we are now, so uhhh, yeah.
the drawings

This is my first drawing of the year, and to be honest, it is among my favorite drawings I have done so far. I had ideas in regards of the lighting this time, like the heart itself is shining a warm yellow light, so this light kinda shines on lug’s gloves, arms, face, and anywhere else where I imagine the light can get to. I also made the background a dark color, in order to make the lighting stand out.
There are things I would like to change this, to be honest. First of all, I think the shading should’ve impacted the lineart, but since I am still getting the hang of shading, I sadly didn’t do that (and it didn’t occur to me that I should do that, lmao). Another thing I notice about this drawing is that Lug’s arms look somewhat off if you stare at the drawing, which kinda sucks but oh well.

I found an image somewhere of a person doing a pose similar to this, and I really wanted to draw Lug in that same pose. The outfit is just his regular outfit, however for whatever reason the demons in my head were like “yeah draw him wearing high heel boots” and for some reason I was like “sure, lmao”. So now he is doing this pose while wearing these high heel boots that I imagine kinda contrast quite strongly with his outfit, and I find that somewhat amusing, lmao.
There are of course things that I would like to change after finishing this drawing. First of all, would probably be those high heel boots: I would like to probably redraw the boots and make them look better, since high heel footwear is very hard to draw it turns out, because they have a lot of curves andthey look very different from each drawing angle making them hell to draw. Another thing I would like to change is the shading: in classic Lug fashion, I made the shading pretty dull and it doesn’t really make sense, to the point that the shade less version actually looks somewhat better. I wish I kinda went with another facial expression on Lug, because I tend to draw him way too often with that face, but I think in this case it kinda fits in a way.

This was a drawing that was made in a single day after Easter. Last year, I drew him in a bunnysuit (because why not, of course) here and it is probably the beginning of me trying to experiment with “suggestive” art, if that makes sense. It honestly was pretty fun to draw him wearing this outfit, and he also slayed, lmao. Anyways, for this year, I had the same idea of drawing him again, in the same outfit, but this time, colored yellow. I also tried making the whole outfit more shinier (if that makes sense) by adding highlights here and there.
Compared to last year, I decided to draw Lug wearing rabbit paw gloves instead of his usual cat paw gloves, as a way to give me some slack with not drawing hands (and it would go with the rabbit ears he was wearing). Since this drawing was somewhat rushed, you can tell that the shoulders don’t look good at all, and the arms are kinda jank, and the legs are okay at best. One thing that I do like, is the shading on the pantyhose: i think i got pretty close to the shiny look I was going for. The shading on the bunnysuit itself, meanwhile, just kinda looks off, to be honest. I may revisit this drawing in the future, and reshade it, but that will be future Lug’s problem, lmao.

Every year, on various social media, during Golden Week (a Japanese holiday period towards the end of April), many artists (some Japanese, others from elsewhere) often draw and post their OCs, sonas or random characters, wearing golden colored swimsuits and bikinis, outfits and pretty much anything with the color gold in it. I’ve been seeing this trend for a while now, and welp I decided to join the trend by drawing something. I wasn’t going to draw my sona in a swimsuit, but I decided to draw him in a bunnysuit instead, because why not, lmao. So I drew that.
I should start off by saying that this is my favorite drawing I have made this year (so far). First of all, the shading is probably my best yet, and it does convey that his outfit is pretty shiny. The pose is great, and in classic Lug fashion, I drew him wearing high heel boots because I thought it would go well with the outfit. This time, I spent an hour trying to get the boots look right, and I think it somewhat paid off, however the leg facing the viewer should be lower, but oh well. The arms are also a part of the drawing where I tried my best to make it look decent, and I think it somewhat paid off, except for his left arm, which kinda looks wonky, just a bit. The white highlights in the bunnysuit really give it the shiny vibe I had in mind, however I could’ve made it better, to be honest. The background is simple, there is a gold outline surrounding Lug, with a black outline outside the golden outline. The pose makes him look so whimsical, and his face makes it even more so, and it kinda fits the whole vibes for the drawing, if that makes sense at all, lmao.
stuff i want to do in the future
Drawing this year has been pretty slow to be honest. Having a job until recently makes it pretty difficult to set time aside for drawing, and being somewhat burnt out does not help. I have all these ideas I want to do, but I lack the drawing ability (or the energy, or time) to do so, and the drawing idea list I have (which is the place I write down most of my ideas) is pretty much full and it never seems to shrink. However, since I am currently between jobs, I think I may be able to slowly get more into drawing, and practice a bunch of stuff that I always been wanting to try for a while.
I think shading is the main thing I want to improve right now. Shading can make the difference between a good and great drawing, and in some drawings like drawing 4 above, it can make it so much better. Of course, anatomy is another big thing that I would like to improve, but to improve, I would need to practice more, which is pretty difficult when you are either working a job or between jobs, and it is also hard because to improve, you need to draw the same damn thing like 3000 times. Using references helps a lot, but I want to be able to draw Lug in more different poses, not just front facing. I wish there was like, a simple way to just, quickly learn all of this without having to go to the hell of learning actual anatomy, but sadly there isn’t a way to learn this quickly. I also want to make Lug’s anatomy more consistent. His anatomy often varies (and sometimes, quite a lot) between drawings, which really no one notices (not even my friends whom are artists) but I do and it kinda bugs me.
Anyways, this is the first of these kinda posts, and I will try to post these every 4 months, with any new drawings that I have made recently.

tangent 1: plans to update the site
I’ve been using Zonelets for a
long while since it is an easy way to get a blog up and running, and
also provides a base on where to develop from there. However, I been
wanting to add some more functionality to the site, such as a tagging
system and other features, like being able to search across posts. Since
the way Zonelets works is with an array in the main javascript file, I
think I would need to start from there, and then figure out the next
step. Maybe I can turn the array into a matrix or something, where i can
probably store a post alongside a string that defines its tags or
something, kinda like for example
["posts/postname.html","#topicname"], and using the
for() cycle that Zonelets uses to build the archive page, I
may use that for() cycle as a way to fill up multiple
arrays filled of posts that have posts sorted out by topic, if that
makes sense, afterwards, I would probably add some buttons that can
reload the posts list with the posts with the selected tag. If I decide
to do it this way, I would probably need to rework how the JS file
works, since to be honest, the Zonelets JS script is kinda like a
blackbox to me, and this would be a good way to learn and remember how
JS is again, since I kinda forgot.
